Custom Microfibre Suede Watch Boxes

Chung Ngai makes custom microfibre suede watch boxes to order for jewellers, designers and retailers — each one built around the watch it will hold, finished in microfibre suede in the colour you choose, and marked with your logo. We are a manufacturer and supplier of jewellery and watch packaging, Hong Kong owned and managed since 1971. This guide covers how a microfibre suede watch box is built, what to specify, and how to order one made to your brand.

What a microfibre suede watch box is — and what it has to do

A watch box seats a timepiece on a fitted pillow so the dial faces up and the strap keeps its shape. It protects the watch in transit and on the shelf, and for many brands the box is a core part of how the watch is presented and gifted.

A suede-covered pillow is the kindest surface for a leather watch strap and a polished case back, which is why it is specified for higher-value watches even inside a PU or lacquered shell.

How a microfibre suede watch box is built inside

The base carries a fitted pillow — usually a covered foam cylinder or a C-shaped cushion — sized to the strap so the watch is buckled around it and the dial sits level. The pillow drops into a recess in the base pad so it cannot slide, and the lid interior is a flat pad that meets the crystal without pressing it. Display boxes add a glass or acrylic window in the lid.

Fit. Pillow circumference is cut to the strap: a 38 mm ladies' watch on a leather strap and a 44 mm steel bracelet need different pillows, so we ask for the watch size before making the sample.

In microfibre suede. Microfibre suede has a short nap and no stretch, so an insert covered in it is cut almost to the finished dimension — only a quarter millimetre is allowed per face — and curved forms such as pillows and C-cushions can be covered in one piece with the seam hidden underneath. The surface is brushed once after fitting to lift the nap.

Formats we make: single watch box · slim gift box · glass-top display box · two- and three-watch collector box · watch roll and travel case.

Why microfibre suede for watch boxes

Microfibre suede gives a warm, matte, tactile finish that photographs exceptionally well — a quiet-luxury look that reads beautifully on a product page. It is soft to the touch yet more colour-stable than natural suede.

Microfibre suede has a short, even nap and no stretch, so it wraps tight radii cleanly and shows no seams on curved inserts — which is why it is our default lining for pillows, C-shaped bangle cushions and ring rolls. It is non-reflective, so under studio lighting the piece, not the box, catches the light.

Suede colours are muted by nature — greys, taupes, sage, dusty blues and off-whites — and it holds colour well under shop lighting.

It suits e-commerce brands who shoot their own unboxing content, minimalist and contemporary jewellery labels.

Two ways to get the size you need

Every box starts with the piece, and the piece decides the shell route:

We will tell you which route fits your brief before quoting, so there are no surprises on tooling or timing.

What we check on every microfibre suede watch box

Before a sample is sent, and again on every bulk run, each microfibre suede watch box is checked against the same points — the insert is suede-covered pads with a hidden underside seam, so the fit checks below are read against that construction:

The most common faults we see in watch boxes bought elsewhere are a pillow too fat for a leather strap (the buckle strains), a pillow too slim for a steel bracelet (the watch flops), and a lid that closes onto the crown. Each of those is a specification decision, and we make it with you before the sample.

Made to your brand

Your size, your lining, your colour, your logo. Suede takes a subtle debossed logo elegantly; foil is possible but reads softer than on PU, so most brands choose a blind deboss or a metal plate. Suede shows dust more than PU, so boxes are individually bagged for transit; it brushes clean in use.

You approve a physical sample before bulk, and the bulk order is held to the sample you approved — the same microfibre suede, the same insert, the same logo position.

How ordering works

Send us the watch dimensions (or the piece itself), the quantity you have in mind, your logo artwork and any colour references. We confirm the shell route and the insert, quote one clear all-in price, and make a pre-production sample for you to approve. Production follows the approved sample. Quantities and lead times are agreed per project rather than fixed, because structure, materials and any tooling decide both.

Why Chung Ngai

Chung Ngai is a manufacturer and supplier of jewellery and watch packaging, Hong Kong owned and managed since 1971. We build and check boxes by hand, quote one transparent price, and hold every bulk run to the approved sample. For microfibre suede watch boxes made to your brand, that consistency is what keeps jewellers re-ordering.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a microfibre suede watch box be?

It depends on the watch. Single watch boxes commonly run 100–120 mm square and 70–90 mm tall; slimmer travel and gift formats and multi-watch collector boxes are made to the collection. In microfibre suede the finished internal size also depends on the covering — microfibre suede has a short nap and no stretch, so an insert covered in it is cut almost to the finished dimension — only a quarter millimetre is allowed per face — and curved forms such as pillows and c-cushions can be covered in one piece with the seam hidden underneath. Send us the piece dimensions and we will recommend a size, or check a preferred external size against our ready tooling first.

How is the watch held inside a microfibre suede watch box?

With a fitted, removable watch pillow set into a recessed base pad — in this finish, suede-covered pads with a hidden underside seam. Pillow circumference is cut to the strap: a 38 mm ladies' watch on a leather strap and a 44 mm steel bracelet need different pillows, so we ask for the watch size before making the sample.

Can you make microfibre suede watch boxes with our logo?

Suede takes a subtle debossed logo elegantly; foil is possible but reads softer than on PU, so most brands choose a blind deboss or a metal plate.

Is microfibre suede the right choice for watch boxes?

Microfibre suede gives a warm, matte, tactile finish that photographs exceptionally well — a quiet-luxury look that reads beautifully on a product page. It is soft to the touch yet more colour-stable than natural suede. It suits e-commerce brands who shoot their own unboxing content, minimalist and contemporary jewellery labels. Suede shows dust more than PU, so boxes are individually bagged for transit; it brushes clean in use.

What is the minimum order for custom microfibre suede watch boxes?

There is no blanket figure. Quantity is agreed per project, based on the structure, the microfibre suede and any tooling involved — tell us the quantity you have in mind and we will quote around it.

Do you make a sample microfibre suede watch box first?

Yes. We make a physical pre-production sample to your specification, you approve it, and the bulk order is held to that sample. On the suede sample we check shade consistency across faces, the seam placement on curved inserts, and that the deboss reads cleanly without crushing the nap.

Can the same watch box be made in other materials?

Yes — the same watch box structure can be finished in velvet, leatherette (pu), lacquered wood, rigid board, so a retail range can share one insert and vary the exterior.
